Apple has release the iPad today - their latest product - a tablet computer with a multi touch surface. It strikes me that this could potentially be used for a fantastic cheap receptionists console.
We've use touch sensitive displays for this type of thing in the past (more normally for Virtual Receptionists - where you touch the name of the person you want to speak to).
Just imaging running a DHTML Flash Operator Panel or something on it?
Drag calls around between extensions, view real time status of calls going on.
The other cool thing is the price - at $US499, it's about the same price as a receptionist's phone and could likely run a softphone at the same time.
Hmmm, well worth a thought - can't wait to see the first native app for working with Asterisk.
If someone buys me one I'll write an app for them - otherwise we'll have to wait till I get one myself :)

At $500, doesn't sound cheap. Why not get a a 21.5" multi-touch lcd monitor for ~$270 and throw together a cheap Intel Atom system for under $250. Buy One Written by Tom Schouteden - http://www.sipcat.com (January 29, 2010, 11:09 am)
